Our Parent Education Program
Our program is designed to deliver parent education in several different ways in order to maximize the
impact we are able to make.  Educating parents benefits us in the following ways:  parents receive
validation for their efforts, additional techniques to use in the parenting of their children and a support
system that aids in decreasing social isolation; children gain by being raised in safer and more stable
homes by parents who have the tools necessary to parent in a nurturing way; and our communities reap
the rewards of having cohesive and nurturing relationships between families, children and adults and the
community as a whole.

Our Parent Education Program includes the following components:
1,2,3,4 Parents! (C) - This curriculum is designed to be delivered in three sessions to groups of
parents who have children from birth through age 4.  Classes are held in many locations throughout
our service area both during the day and in the evening.

Active Parenting Now in 3 (C) - This three session group class is for parents with children from
age 5 to age 12.  Again, classes are held in many locations throughout our service area both during
the day and in the evening.

Active Parenting of Teens (C) - For parents with youth age 13 and up, this group class is
structured to be delivered in six sessions.  As with our other group parenting classes, this class is
held in many locations throughout our service area both during the day and in the evening.

Becoming a Love and Logic Parent (C) - For parents with children of all ages, this group class is
offered in six sessions.  Like all of our group parenting classes, this is held in many locations
throughout our service area both during the day and in the evening.

Nurturing Parenting Program (C) - This is a home visit program provided for families unable to
attend group parenting classes or who need or request more intensive services.  The curriculum's
design allows flexibility in the number of and frequency of sessions.  Portions of the curriculum are
also utilized for the mandatory two home visits each family enrolled in group parenting classes
receives.

Nest/Stork's Nest Presentations - Staff are available in each county we serve to provide
presentations at the various Nest/Stork's Nest sites.  Various subjects are available as presentations
including 'Protecting Your Child from Sex Offenders', 'Parents and Stress', 'Age-Appropriate
Expectations' and 'Nurturing Touch - The Art of Infant Massage' among many others.

Parents As Teachers - This home visitation program recognizes the fact that parents are their
children's first and best teachers.  Available to families expecting a baby and with children up to age
5, monthly visits focus on child development and how parents and caregivers can best nurture that
development.  Provided solely in Decatur County by our organization, we will provide referral services
for those in our remaining service area to organizations who provide the program in Wayne, Ringgold
and Clarke counties.
