Fiscal Year 2008 Annual Report
|
July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008
|
Our Sexual Abuse Prevention Programs are meant to prevent children from being sexually abused, to stop
sexual abuse that is occurring to a child, to help children develop in a sexually healthy way and to increase
public awareness of sexual abuse. Our entire program is comprised of several different programs for the
many different audiences we reach - children, youth, parents, professionals and the lay public.
Evaluations this fiscal year show once again that our programs are working. 83% of adults surveyed
stated that the children and youth that participated in our programs demonstrated the ability to apply the
self-protection skills taught to them. 92% of them indicated that the children/youth understood the sexual
abuse information presented. 93% agreed that our programs adequately covered information about
sexual abuse for children and youth. It is even more impressive that an overwhelming 100% of all adults
questioned believed that their abilities as adults to identify appropriate and inappropriate sexual behaviors
was improved after participating in our programs - a key ability to identify children who are possibly
experiencing sexual abuse. In addition, 100% of adults relayed that their abilities to protect children from
sexual abuse, report suspected sexual abuse and get help for children who have been sexually abused
improved after our programs.
Although we received $23,262 less than we anticipated for our sexual abuse prevention programs, we
were still able to provide our services on average for less than $50.00 per participant.
Our Parent Education Programs are meant to provide parents with up-to-date, practical parenting
information on discipline, age-appropriate child development expectations, stress reducing techniques and
ways to have increased cohesiveness within the family unit. All of our parent education programs are
delivered with one true purpose in mind, to enable children to grow and develop free from child abuse.
Once again, evaluations of our programs were impressive. 94% of parents surveyed replied that their
family functioning improved after participating in our program. 85% stated that their ability to manage their
child's behavior has improved. 83% reported they are able to communicate more effectively with their
children. 74% are better able to create safe relationships with their family. 82% relayed that their realistic
expectations of child behavior have improved. 88% answered that their knowledge of good ways to
manage their stress has increased.
We received $32,361 less than we expected for our parent education programs this fiscal year - however
we were still able to provide services for over 53% of the families we intended to for less than $340 per
participant.
